Single Lumen Tubing

Single lumen tubing is an extrusion with one channel, or passage, running through its center. Single-lumen extrusions are commonly used in medical applications where the device component needs only one channel such as:

  • Balloons
  • Intravenous (IV) tubing
  • Infusion Sets and other pumping lines
  • Feeding tubes
  • Cannulas
  • Catheters

Medical devices may require single-lumen components to preserve specific material properties and meet stringent dimensional specifications. Choosing a supplier that understands materials and the processes needed to hold tight tolerances, maintain wall concentricity, and retain physical properties will be the deciding factor in high-quality extrusions.

Our extrusion experts at GenX have the knowledge and equipment to deliver high-quality, repeatable single-lumen extrusions. Whether you need quick R&D runs or high-volume production quantities, GenX Medical can rapidly design and manufacture the proper tooling needed for your custom extrusion designs. Our internal capabilities allow precise, on-demand tooling to be manufactured for quick turnarounds or when critical adjustments are necessary.

GenX has acquired and developed specialized equipment and techniques to extrude a variety of polymers while maintaining their original properties during extrusion. When materials require special considerations for moisture, filtration, or cooling, GenX uses resin-specific methods to ensure stable, consistent extrusion runs. With many medical-grade polymers on hand, GenX can manufacture most single-lumen extrusions within a week.

Rod & Filament Extrusion

Rods, filaments, and beading are solid extrusions, typically round and small in diameter. Rods and filaments can also be extruded with a rectangular profile.

Filaments are added to extrusions to reinforce strength and resist kinking. Beading and rods can be used in reflow and coating applications.

Rods and filaments can be manufactured from a range of materials. Most can be cut into discrete lengths or collected onto spools. Filaments can also be extruded in round or rectangular profiles to fit many custom applications.
